Media Day: Bonnies Picked for Fourth, Nicholson on First Team

Media Day Notes

BROOKLYN, N.Y. –St. Bonaventure was picked to finish fourth in the Atlantic 10 Preseason poll and senior Andrew Nicholson earned First and All-Defensive Team honors for the second straight year, as announced by the league at media day on Thursday.

The Bonnies – tabbed by many pundits as a sleeper team for the 2011-12 season – finished fourth in the preseason voting conducted by the league's head coaches and select media members. It is the highest that the Bonnies have been picked in the preseason since being tabbed for second in the East division prior to the 2002-03 season.

Xavier (304 points, 18 first-place votes) was picked to claim its fifth straight regular season crown, ahead of Temple (287, four) and Saint Louis (239).

Nicholson earned his second consecutive spot on the preseason First and Defensive teams and returns for his final campaign as the nation's No. 3 scorer at 20.8 points per game. The 6-foot-9, 250-pound Mississauga native, who ranks 13th on the school's all-time scoring list, has been tabbed for preseason honors in each of the last three years.
